Most Central American cichlids get very large thus they need a very large tank. Novice buyers run into this problem, say they buy a baby Oscar that get's to 14" and put it in a 20 gallon when suddenly it keeps growing. Well that poor fish needs a 75 gallon plus tank. I have seen this over and over!

Some stores will say and do anything to make a buck so your best bet is if you like a cichlid comes home research it and find out for yourself if they are suitable for your environment.

Their is a lot to consider when getting a fish tank and fish. We will go over that later.

Central American Cichlids are well-known for their pugnacious behavior and their stunning colors. Most of these cichlid are large, thus requiring large tanks. Most of the Central American Cichlid belong to a group known as Cichlasomines. These fish inhabit most types of water ways throughout Central America including lakes, streams, rivers, even underground water sources.

Cichlids are a blast, they dig, they have attitude and personality. They are very entertaining if you can get them to exist peacefully.
